Michael McClennan is one of Toronto’s busiest bassists. In addition to leading his own chamber jazz group, he has performed or recorded with most of Toronto’s jazz artists and a growing number of international musicians.
For the past several years, Michael has been music director and arranger for award winning vocalist Heather Bambrick, and co-produced both her critically acclaimed debut album, It’s About Time and her follow-up Those Were The Days. He also holds the bass chair of the Tara Davidson Quartet, and the Andy Ballantyne Large Ensemble. Besides being a highly sought-after sideman, Michael leads and composes for his own ensemble, and has been featured at some of Canada’s top National Jazz Festivals. He is currently completing the debut CD with this ensemble, set for release later this year.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from the University of Toronto, and is currently working towards a Masters in Music Performance. He is an active educator, and is on the faculty at Toronto’s prestigious Humber College. |
